Pediatrician, IBCLC

Prof. Dr. Daniela Karall is a pediatrician, neonatologist, metabolic specialist, and IBCLC whose teaching and research include tongue mobility, breastfeeding, and interdisciplinary pediatric care.

Daniela Karall is a pediatrician with specialization in neonatology and pediatric intensive care, neuropediatrics and inherited metabolic disorders. She graduated from the Medical University of Innsbruck, where she works at the Clinic for Pediatrics. She has been working as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2006.

She teaches in neonatology, pediatrics and human lactation for both medical professionals and future lactation consultants in preparation for the international IBCLC exam. Since 2008, she cooperates with Márta Guóth-Gumberger, and tongue-tie and issues around tongue mobility and function have become a special focus of their teaching and research.

Dr. Karall is currently the president of the Austrian Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine (ÖGKJ = “Österreichische Gesellschaft für Kinder- und Jugendheilkunde”). She is deputy director of the Clinic for Pediatrics I in Innsbruck. In clinical work, besides being responsible for the care of children, adolescents and adults with inherited metabolic disorders, she also is considered an expert in diagnosing and treating tongue-tie with scissors frenotomy without suture in all age groups. For her, the care before and after frenotomy and the communication within the interdisciplinary network caring for the affected by tongue-tie is indispensable in the field of tongue mobility and function.
