Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Alison Sigal is a pediatric dental specialist, researcher, and innovator whose airway-centric work connects tongue function, breathing, sleep, craniofacial growth, myofunctional therapy, and frenulum care from birth onward.

Dr. Alison Sigal is a certified specialist in pediatric dentistry, Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, researcher, and founder of Little Bird Pediatric Dentistry in Milton, Ontario, Canada.

Since founding Little Bird in 2017, Dr. Sigal has dedicated her clinical practice, research, teaching, and innovation to airway-centric health care from birth onward. Her work examines the relationships among tongue function, tongue resting posture, nasal breathing, craniofacial growth, sleep, feeding, swallowing, myofunctional therapy, and functional frenotomy across the lifespan.

Through the care of more than 4,000 patients and an actively maintained clinical research database, Dr. Sigal has developed novel airway assessment tools, age-specific treatment protocols, structured pre- and post-frenotomy myofunctional care, and objective surgical checkpoints designed to improve the consistency and reproducibility of tongue and lip tie treatment.

Her peer-reviewed research includes Changes in Tongue Resting Posture Following Pediatric Lingual Frenotomy: Evidence for the Tongue as a Muscular Hydrostat and The Tool for Optimal Tongue Rest Posture (TOTRP): A Measurement-Based Surgical Checkpoint for Pediatric Lingual Frenotomy Under General Anesthesia. Together, these publications advance a data-driven understanding of normal tongue physiology, optimal tongue resting posture, mechanical restriction, and objective assessment of surgical completeness.

Dr. Sigal’s career goal is to help make airway-centric assessment and treatment common knowledge, common practice, and ultimately the standard of care from birth onward.
