Guiding Early Development: "Baby Plate Therapy" for Tongue Function, Oral Balance, and Multidisciplinary Infant Care

The baby plates I developed are designed to gently guide and stimulate optimal oral function in infants, particularly those with hypotonia or following tongue-tie release. By encouraging proper tongue positioning against the palate, lip closure, and active oral engagement, the plates provide continuous, subtle sensory input that helps “wake up” and strengthen underactive muscles. This stimulation supports improved tongue mobility and coordination, reduces drooling, and promotes more efficient feeding and breathing patterns, while also encouraging more favorable palatal development, improved structure, and hopefully better jaw alignment over time.

Importantly, the plates are used as part of a multidisciplinary approach, working in close collaboration with an osteopath and a physiotherapist specializing in fascial manipulation, to facilitate whole-body integration. The care team may also include a lactation consultant and a nutritionist a myofunctional therapist or feeding specialist, ensuring comprehensive support for each baby’s unique needs. By supporting oral function alongside postural and fascial balance, we hope to create the conditions for more harmonious development and help these babies build stronger, more functional patterns from an early stage.
