Dr David McIntosh is an Australian ENT surgeon, international speaker, author and educator specialising in paediatric ENT, airway health and sleep-disordered breathing. His clinical and academic work focuses on the complex relationship between nasal breathing, upper-airway function, oral posture, craniofacial development and sleep.
He is internationally recognised for his work in paediatric sleep-disordered breathing and has developed a particular interest in children whose airway dysfunction presents through behavioural, cognitive, developmental and sleep-related symptoms. Dr McIntosh is the founder of the Airway Breathing Academy, an educational platform dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary knowledge of breathing, airway health and sleep-disordered breathing. He lectures internationally and regularly teaches ENT surgeons, paediatricians, dentists, orthodontists, speech and myofunctional therapists and other healthcare professionals.
He is the author of several books addressing breathing, airway health and sleep, and has contributed extensively to professional education in paediatric airway disorders.
Dr McIntosh’s current academic interests include tongue function and tongue-tie, nasal obstruction, upper-airway resistance, paediatric sleep-disordered breathing, craniofacial development and the interaction between ENT and orthodontic treatment.
His approach combines clinical experience with critical appraisal of the emerging evidence, with a particular emphasis on identifying where established science ends and new areas of airway research begin.
